Height Comparison FAQs

The average height for a 10-year-old is about 4 ft 6 in (137 cm).
Boys and girls are often similar in height at this age.
Typical range: 4 ft 3 inโ€“4 ft 8 in (129โ€“142 cm)

A 12-year-old typically measures 4 ft 11 in (150 cm) on average.
Growth varies widely as puberty begins.
Normal range: 4 ft 7 inโ€“5 ft 2 in (139โ€“157 cm)

The average height for a 13-year-old is about 5 ft 1 in (155 cm).
Usual range: 4 ft 11 inโ€“5 ft 4 in (150โ€“162 cm)

The average height for a 14-year-old is around 5 ft 4 in (162 cm).
Boys may start out shorter than girls but often catch up quickly.
Range: 5 ft 1 inโ€“5 ft 6 in (155โ€“167 cm)

A 13-year-old girl averages 5 ft 2 in (157 cm).
Typical range: 4 ft 11 inโ€“5 ft 5 in (150โ€“165 cm)

A 14-year-old boy typically stands about 5 ft 4 in (162 cm).
Range: 5 ft 1 inโ€“5 ft 7 in (155โ€“170 cm)

Most girls stop growing around 15โ€“16 years old.
Growth usually slows after the first menstrual period.
Small additional gains (1โ€“2 in / 2โ€“5 cm) may continue into the late teens.

Boys typically stop growing around 17โ€“18 years old, though some continue until age 20.
Final height is usually reached about 2 years after facial hair begins to grow.

  • Stand barefoot on a flat floor against a wall.
  • Keep your heels together and back straight.
  • Place a flat object (like a book) on your head at a right angle.
  • Mark where it touches the wall and measure down to the floor.

Example: If the mark is at 5 ft 3 in (160 cm), thatโ€™s your height.

  • On iPhone 12 and later, use the built-in Measure app. Point it at the person and it displays their height.
  • On Android, use apps like Google Measure.
  • Note: Results may varyโ€”double-check with a tape measure for accuracy.

Write feet first, then inches, using symbols:
Example: 5 feet 7 inches = 5’7″

  • The single quote (‘) means feet
  • The double quote (“) means inches
  • Centimeters (cm): Metric system
  • Feet and inches: Common in the U.S.
  • 1 foot = 12 inches = 30.48 cm
    Example: 5 ft 6 in = 66 in = 168 cm

In the United States, height is not listed on passports.
While it may be collected during the application, it doesnโ€™t appear on the printed document.

In contrast, many countries in Europe and Asia do include heightโ€”usually in centimetersโ€”on passports.
Examples: German and Malaysian passports list height on the information page alongside bio-metric data.

Height difference is the distance between two heights, showing how much taller one person or object is than the other.
To calculate: Subtract the shorter height from the taller one.

Example:
If one person is 180 cm and another is 150 cm,
Height difference = 30 cm

A height difference chart is a visual tool that shows how two people or objects compare in height.
To use:

  • Enter each personโ€™s height
  • The chart displays both figures side by side

Many websites (including ours) offer automated height comparison charts.

Thereโ€™s no universal ideal. However, in heterosexual couples, the average height gap is around 5 to 6 inches (13โ€“15 cm), with the man being taller in over 90% of cases. Preferences vary, but most real-world couples fall within this range.

Not really. While some may have height preferences, what truly matters is comfort, compatibility, and mutual respect. Plenty of couples with big or small height gaps enjoy strong, happy relationships.

Example:
A couple where one is 5’2″ (157 cm) and the other is 6’2″ (188 cm) might adjust posture or angles in photosโ€”but itโ€™s a minor detail.

A difference of 1 foot (30 cm) or more is often considered โ€œbig,โ€ but this is subjective.
Example: 6’1″ vs 5’1″ = 12 inches (30 cm)

Use an online height difference visualizer:

  • Enter both heights (in feet/inches or cm)
  • The tool will show a side-by-side illustration

You can also test multiple height combinations quickly.

A person who is 6’1″ is 11 inches (28 cm) taller than someone who is 5’2″.
More examples:

  • 5’4″ vs 6’0″ = 8 inches (20 cm)
  • 5’3″ vs 5’10” = 7 inches (18 cm)
  • 5’6″ vs 6’2″ = 8 inches (20 cm)

Tip: Subtract the shorter height from the taller one.

  • Convert both heights to the same unit (either inches or cm)
  • Subtract the shorter from the taller

Example:
5’7″ = 67 in
5’2″ = 62 in
Difference = 5 inches (13 cm)

  • Sneakers: 0.5โ€“1 inch (1โ€“2.5 cm)
  • Boots: 1โ€“1.5 inches (2.5โ€“3.8 cm)
  • Heels: 2โ€“4 inches (5โ€“10 cm)

Example:
Someone who is 5’6″ (168 cm) wearing 3-inch heels will appear 5’9″ (175 cm).
